The Maraquan petpets got moved to Mystery Island, and the Kitchen chef, who was originally a shrimp but was moved to Mystery Island and turned into a Flotsam. Flotsam, Jetsam, and Koi live in Maraqua, but Kikos visit this area often.

In Year 6 (2004), Neopets staff hinted that Maraqua was going to be rebuilt sometime in 2005. In the Advent Calendar for Year 6, Neopets gave a "Rebuild Maraqua" poster for users to put in their Neohomes. At the end of the year, Neopets staff announced on the site's news page that Maraqua was going to be rebuilt in 2005.
